Technical SEO Checklist for a Faster, More Search-Friendly Website
A website can read well and still underperform in search if Google is struggling to crawl it or visitors are waiting too long for the page to become usable. This is the practical checklist we run through before recommending any content work.
Crawlability and indexing
- Check Search Console for crawl errors and pages excluded from the index
- Confirm the XML sitemap is current and submitted
- Look for redirect chains and broken internal links
- Review robots.txt for anything accidentally blocked
Page experience
- Run Core Web Vitals checks on your key landing pages
- Confirm images are sized and compressed appropriately
- Check that mobile layouts are not just shrunk desktop pages
Structure and metadata
Each page should have one clear H1, a logical heading hierarchy underneath it, and a meta description written for a person deciding whether to click – not stuffed with repeated keywords.
